Useful CSS tools

August 31st, 2007 No comments

After fiddling with the B2evolution skins and CSS styles for hours to make my Blog look like my home page, Graham showed me a great tool for discovering what CSS styles are applied to parts of a page. It is a free firefox plug and is called Web Developer. It adds a firefox toolbar which supports various web development tools seeing what CSS styles are applied to sub parts of a page. Onward forward.

Content Aware Image Resizing

August 31st, 2007 No comments

Following on from the totally awesome Photosynth which permits a 3D model to be constructed from a collection of 2D images; today’s cool thing that Graham has shown me is content aware image resizing. This cool application finds discontinuities between objects in images and permits the boring bits – like sky etc. to be thrown away when the image is resized.  Clearly interesting things are happening in the land of computer graphics.

Blogging on the Train

August 31st, 2007 No comments

As I write this I am travelling down the east coast of Scotland at 100 mph or so on a GNER train with wireless Internet – see below or http://www.gnerwifi.train/. This service is free in first class – why not everywhere?

Last week I traveled down the West cost line with Virgin. The real question is why do the Virgin trains which are much newer and fancier in general not also offer this service. Anyhow time to check out the GNER food in the restaurant car…..
