What are you doing now?
I graduated and awarded the PhD in 2000. Following this I continued in the University of St Andrews as a researcher in the area of persistent programming, led by Prof Ron Morrison. I then join Capgemini fulfilling various roles ranging from programming and designing to business analysis and release/technical management. Upon my return to Greece I joined academic and industrial institutes fulfilling roles like teaching, researching, software engineering, business analysis, project management, product management. I am currently a senior product manager, working for Intralot, a leading global gaming solutions supplier and operator.
What is your favourite memory from your time studying Computer Science in St Andrews?
During my PhD I have to say I learnt a lot. This process changed my way of thinking which became much more structured and the way I tackled problems. I went through a lot of difficulties, however, with the help of Prof Morrison and Dr Kirby, these made me a stronger and more organized researcher. Prof Morrison used to say “if it was easy, I wouldn’t be here” and that quote follows my activities since then.
All of my assignments since then and especially my current one have a strong flavor of R&D, and obviously the methodology I learnt in the University together with the business methodology I grasped in my industrial adventures allow me to solve each problem in a structured and highly procedural and organised way.
