What are you doing now?
After studying for an MSc in Management & IT, I am now working in Prague as an HR Specialist for Amazon. I joined the company before graduating in September 2016, and since then I changed two positions. Amazon Prague is the European hub for HR Services. The company established in Czech Republic (now Czechia) two year and a half ago, and we provide HR Services to Amazon offices in Europe by supporting local HR departments in the employee lifecycle. I started as a Time and Attendance associate, then I was promoted to HR Administrator, and now I’m coaching new hires and dealing with process improvement.
What is your favourite memory from your time studying Computer Science in St Andrews?
This place really changed my life. I did not have any experience in any of the things I studied in St Andrews. This University taught me so much that I would not be where I am without it, but more importantly, it taught me to live. I met many inspiring and beautiful people who will be my friends forever. I will never forget the days spent in the CS lab, the library, the coffee at the Union, and the sunset at East Shore with my friends. Studying in St Andrews is the best experience that I ever had, and I’m sure I will come back to Scotland for one reason or another!
What advice would you give to current students?
Be open-minded. The world is so big, there are so many opportunities in places where you normally would not go, but that are the best to kick off your career if you have no experience. Don’t worry if you struggle finding the job of your dreams: try your best to achieve it, but if you don’t, just aim to get into a company, it will be way easier to ask for an internal transfer from the inside for a role that is more suitable for you!
