What are you doing now?
I joined as a software developer the wealth management arm of Avaloq, who are writing software for just about every part of a bank you could imagine. This year I’m going on to study an MSc in High Performance Computing with Data Science at the University of Edinburgh.
What is your favourite memory from your time studying Computer Science in St Andrews?
Writing my senior honours project. I felt great to use much of the theory we’d been learning into a fully realised product. The support from my advisor was great and I was very pleased with the final submission.
What was your favourite module, and why?
Probably “Graphs and Algorithms” in 3rd year. The core algorithms learnt there have been invaluable. Plus, writing coursework to scale single shortest path to 100k nodes was a really cool moment for me.
What advice would you give to current students?
Your senior honours project is a great chance to aim your skills at the tech and area you want to follow after graduation, so have a good think about what you want to do!
