What have you been doing since St Andrews?
After graduating from St Andrews I went on to do the MPhil in Advanced Computer Science at the University of Cambridge. I specialised in natural language processing and worked in the area of distributional semantics. Now I am starting a PhD in Cambridge in the same field.
What is your favourite memory from your time studying Computer Science in St Andrews?
All those late hours spent in the lab with fellow CS students. I really miss St Andrews labs and the atmosphere of the department.
What was your favourite module, and why?
I particularly liked Language and Computation, an introductory course to natural language processing. It was a rich course, covering a broad range of topics and it really got me interested in the field. I also enjoyed Logic and Software Verification due to its theoretical nature.
What advice would you give to current students?
Explore. There is so much interesting content out there that won’t be taught to you. Also, if you’re considering pursuing more theoretical branches of Computer Science in the future make friends with Maths.
