Best paper nomination in pervasive health

Dr Juan Ye and Graeme Steveson’s paper on accessing rich data was nominated for the best paper award at the recent PervasisiveHealth conference.

The paper,

Juan Ye, Graeme Stevenson, Simon Dobson, Michael O’Grady and Gregory O’Hare. PI: perceiver and interpreter of smart home datasets. In Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Pervasive Computing Technologies for Healthcare (PervasiveHealth 2011). Dublin, IE. May 2011.

describes a workbench API for querying and re-structuring richly-structured data such as is commonly encountered in pervasive systems. Integrating such data using ontologically-based techniques is vital for applications such as assisted living, in which we have to integrate data from a wide variety of sources into a common framework for recognising hazards and other incidents that might occur in a monitored home.
