Friday 20th November. The Computer Science staff (and research) team celebrated a victory in the bi-annual master’s competition, overcoming their opponents 4-2 following a scrappy 50 minutes of play.
The staff team were dealt an early blow when James Smith, a product of the school’s “youth academy”, injured his “groin” in pre-game warm-ups.
Opening encounters were tense as both teams struggled to create chances. When the first goal came it was against the run of play, as members of the MSc team displayed some good touch to score from the edge of the box.
For the next forty minutes both teams traded blows, with the staff team eventually taking control with a two goal lead late in the game.
However, what was a mostly incident free match ended in controversy when Dr Mirco Musolesi had a stunning volleyed goal ruled out after referee David Greenwood failed to give advantage on an earlier foul.
