Privacy on the Web: Analysing the Public Suffix List

Web browsers, and other applications, need to be able to determine when two domain names are related to each other, and when they are not. This helps them to make decisions about how data, like cookies, should be shared. The way that applications figure this out is by using the Public Suffix List, a community-maintained list of rules that can be applied to domain names to determine how they should be grouped into logical organisations or companies. Given the significant implications to privacy, it is essential to explore how the Public Suffix List is used in practice.
