Women in the booktrade: patrons and dedicatees
We created a program that first sanitises scanned text of an historical Index which only contains the name of the dedicatee and an outdated reference to books. We then automatically search an online catalogue for the new references, and scrape the needed data from the same catalogue. The challenge in this project has been that the online catalogue does not provide a backend, and manual searching had to be automated by using the human friendly interface.
The work in this project showcases that tasks can be automated even with an interface that is prepared for single inquiries.
